Sunday was spent diving in a quarry just north of Raliegh. It was a beautiful day at a beautiful place. Used to be a marble quarry until they hit water and then it filled up. So now it is a stunning blue lake surrounded on 3 sides by marble walls. P>

My dive buddies were Gavin and Kenda who are newly certified SSI SCUBA divers. The quarry is used strictly by divers, no swimmers. There are bouys set up at different underwater landmarks - like the pink VW Beetle, the school bus, the rock crusher (guess they couldn't get it out fast enough before the water covered it), the glass bottom boat and the tombstones with funny sayings. Of course the visibility makes it easy to miss the stone entirely.

The thermoclines were weird. There was a definite murky salad-dressing looking area that would mark leaving the warmish water and entering the freeze-your-butt-off water. Needless to say, I stayed high and above that damned line if at all possible.

More fun were the fish that flock to divers like pigeons in the park looking for food. Those little buggers are aggressive and absolutely nothing is sacred. Kenda even ended up with little scabby things on her ears from fish bites. There are presently new signs all around stating the obvious: Do Not Feed the Fish!

Well duh!!!!

It was a love day and a pleasant distraction. Hope your weekend was as wonderful.
